CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Chicopee had a variety of freebies and giveaways Sunday to help kids start the school year with confidence.
This is the third year that Faded Barber Lounge owner Ricardo Diaz has hosted the event.
The event provided free haircuts and manicures for new students, as well as free backpacks, school supplies, food and snacks.
Diaz emphasized that the event would not be possible without sponsors and that he is grateful to be able to give back to the Chicopee community.
“It's only been 20 minutes and the park is full. There's going to be a huge turnout,” Diaz said. “We are so proud that we are able to send these kids off with increased energy and self-esteem. They go to school feeling good, looking good, getting haircuts, manicures, blowouts, braids, and more. Just being able to do all that for the kids, including backpacks, is great.”
“It's especially moving to see Chicopee business owners like Diaz so invested in giving back to our residents,” said Mayor Viau.
