In between his hectic schedule of cutting hair at Brisbane's Bare Bones, working on his beloved bikes, and building custom luggage for his side gig, Nolan Supply, we find out who Denny Rick is. He's a difficult person to do. Barbering's answer to Ned Flanders responded to our repeated requests to come to the Jungle Room for a haircut when he learned that his beloved styling powder could become the product of choice for the day. I finally responded.

Denny invites his buddy Daffy to clean up. Therefore, a short textured mullet was chosen. With the heat of the Australian summer upon us, it was the perfect option to add some serious texture to the entire cut while eliminating bulk and weight.

When I asked Denny why he was so passionate about this particular product, he replied:

“Styling powder is great for adding texture and volume. It's versatile for all hairstyles, from short crops to long, loose styles. It soaks in really easily and washes out just as easily. Hair dryer I was able to get a ton of texture all over this haircut using nothing but styling powder. There are so many things you can do with styling powder while styling your hair. Just keep the powder moving and customers can redo their hair throughout the day.”

Now, how can you top that answer?!?

How to style a short textured mullet

Founder Steve Purcell says there are two things you need to know to give your hair great texture.

Barbers who know how to enhance texture by making point cuts, using a feather razor, and walking the lines of thinning shears.

Leave it to the product (styling powder)! There are no rules when it comes to making your hair look messy. Using dry hands and dry hair, simply apply the right amount of styling powder and pop the textured mallet.

What is styling powder?

Uppercut Deluxe Hair Styling Powder is created with modern hairstyles in mind. It's easy to use, just “shake and scratch” for easy styling without the hassle of traditional wax or pomade.

Simply sprinkle powder at the roots of your hair to add volume, then use your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to rake in the powder to add texture to build your hairstyle. Hair powder is great because it allows you to add volume with flexible control. Apply one layer of powder at a time to make sure it doesn't get too unruly.
