The Barber Club of Turlock is once again going all out to ensure all students have a strong first day of class as they host their second annual back-to-school event.
Students 13 and under can enter the downtown barbershop from 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 12 to receive a free haircut and a backpack filled with school supplies.
“It's important that the community continues to host events nearby for children and families in need,” said Francisco Vargas, co-owner of Barber Club Turlock. “It’s always nice to do something close to your heart.”
Vargas said 78 local children received free haircuts and school supplies at the first event last year. This year, they expect at least 150. In addition to school supplies, there will also be a raffle to win a brand new bicycle and a 12-visit family care plan for parents at Mas Vida Chiropractic. We also plan to donate clothing to children.
Vargas and the Barber Club staff are getting a little help this year from Merced's Mas Vida Chiropractic and Rinsed Salon. While Barber Club takes care of the styles of boys and young men, Rinsed Salon makes sure girls and young women are in top shape before the first bell rings.
The event is walk-in only. No reservation required. For families unable to get a haircut that day, the Barber Club will be handing out coupons on Aug. 12 that can be redeemed on another day.
The barber club is still looking for donations of backpacks and binders. To drop off supplies or monetary donations, visit 132 S. Center St., Turlock.
